Well we finally left the marina yesterday morning after a bit of a struggle. The pound we are in although 2 miles long feeds the 8 Stockton locks had dropped about 6 inches and we were sitting on the muddy bottom, not helped by the fact we had filled the water tank ready for the trip. We eventually managed to leave its muddy grip after 20 minutes with the help of two fellow boaters.Once through the Calcutt Locks we decided on coffee before the Napton flight of nine locks when the gas bottle duly ran out. We only have small 3.9kg bottles as the bow is so low,so into Wigrams Turn Marina for a new one. As we left the heavens opened and the wind was freezing- so started our 2015 trip to the Basingstoke Canal.
When the sun is out and you are out of the wind it feels like spring -,if you are not its full on layers including gloves and hats with ear muffs- ah an English Spring how lovely!!.

This used to be the farm house on Napton Hill surrounded by old farm machinery-how it has changed now |
