Godalming Navigation and the end of the journey

Tuesday, 9 June 2015

Today we completed the last part of the journey along the River Wey through the centre of Guildford and on to the end of navigation at Godalming. Well about 500 yards before the end as the last winding point is at the wharf and The Godalming Navigation (The River Wey Navigation finished at Guildford) continues that little bit further to the Town Bridge. A great journey through the hectic county of Surrey - long may it last- thank you National Trust.  The weather today has been cloudy with a chilly wind - come on we need more sunshine.

This is the end of the navigation- Town Bridge

Looking towards Godalming Wharf  and the winding hole from our mooring

A boat turning at the Wharf - the Nicholson guide suggests you put the stern into the area in white and let the current help the bow round - I will try that tomorrow morning

The horseboat  Iona operates from the Wharf and went out this afternoon
Looking from the wharf downriver,we are the second boat on the left- visitor moorings were in short supply
Godalming town is well worth the effort to visit with a large Waitrose and Sainsburys very close

Iona returning to the wharf

More art at Guildford Town Wharf- a working boatman

There are some very sharp 90 degree bends on the river as these rollers used to help the tow  ropes of the old working boats get round them
Whats a Grecian Urn!!!!!!
